About Munira Mendonça's Handcrafted Leather Articles

Munira Mendonça began working with leather in the 70’s when she arrived to Bubion, a small village in southern Spain, in the province of Granada. It was here that she learned and developed a passion for this traditional craft as she worked for some years in this beautiful setting.

Now we find her workshop in the lovely old city of Granada where Islamic art pervades as is demonstrated by the famous Palace of the Alhambra, which crowns the city. This influence is strong in MM products. Over the years the workshop has become a family business which designs and hand crafts its unique range of leather articles.

All the leather articles made by our firm are the result of more than 20 years of continual research and production.

These articles include: briefcases, hand bags, desktop articles (notepads, telephone books, etc.) portfolios, filofaxes, company gifts, etc. Munira also has a range of 'leather art work' which include tooled calligraphies, leather pictures and other original works.

The actual height of expression has been achieved through the use of ancient embossing and polychrome techniques that survive, at least in Granada, in the hands of an old master . Munira is both proud of and profoundly grateful for his teaching and collaboration.

The skin used on the majority of the products is naturally cured cowhide, which is free of any artificial manipulation other than that necessitated by the curing process. This permits the hide to be worked without limitation. The resulting effects and finishes are unique to each article. Our study of ancient designs and calligraphies and our use of traditional tools situate our items well within the leather tradition of Spain; a rich but dying tradition that spans many hundreds of years.

To all of you, from all of us at Munira Mendonça - Thank you and Happy Shopping!
